Amateur Boxing Club, open to the community for people aged 12 and up. Come give it a go!

The Port Augusta Amateur Boxing Club [PAABC] has been around since the thirties. Port Augusta has always produced good boxers in both amateur and professional ranks. While the club has come and gone over this time it is currently enjoying 26 years of continual operation, the longest in its history.

During this time, we have built the club to a very high standard. We have three fully qualified coaches who continually update coaching skills in Adelaide through Boxing SA [a nationally recognised body in South Australia] so that we can maintain the highest skill levels to our competitors. We have two fully qualified personal trainers, Child Protection Officers, first aid officers and an energetic and very capable committee who all volunteer their time.

We are an accredited Star Club and Non-for-Profit organization. Although we are a low-profile sport we have many members and cater for all walks of life – males and females and children. Our club provides an outlet to kids from low socioeconomic backgrounds where parents can’t afford the high costs of membership and startup costs other clubs require.

We also have regular visits to our club from past boxers who now get pleasure from watching and passing on helpful hints to the young boxers. In the past we have had competition nights that have been sold out venues. These shows bring lots of visitors (ie competitors, coaches, families and spectators) from Australia wide, which has added economic benefits to the town.

We as a club are very proud of our achievement. We have in the last few years had some great results that have been well documented in the local paper, and local television station and have put Port Augusta on the map at a state level.

While we are proud of our high standards and quality of athlete we have produced, the committee and coaches agree that our proudest achievements are the lives of some of the kids we have turned around, who start as angry young kids and become respectful to everyone. The feedback we get from parents who tell us their kid goes to school everyday or the teacher that says how Johnny tries at school and has stopped getting into trouble.

Our primary goal is to ensure that the future of amateur boxing in Port Augusta is provided with the best possible opportunities for maintaining and striving for continued and greater success.

Port Augusta Boxing Club is adopting a focused approach and outlook to achieve our goals. These include our committee structure, focused goal setting, development and implementation of Mission and Vision Statements, Strategic Plan and Risk Action Management Plan.

Working together to achieve individual goals will assist in delivering the outcomes of the Strategic Plan.
