Project Break - Smash Room & Axe Throwing

by , in Local Business or Place , April 28, 2023

Project Break is the only smash room in Adelaide. We provide a fun and safe space to break stuff and throw axes. In a smash room you will get glassware, ceramics, and other items to smash to bits. The Axe Lanes let you hone in on your primal hunting skills with a variety of axes to choose from. It’s oddly addictive and a great stress relief in a controlled environment and a safe way to be destructive. Whether is the smash room or throwing axes or both, you will be surprised how much fun you will have at Project Break.

LUMBERJAXE is Adelaide's only official WATL venue and Australia's ONLY WKTL venue!!!

What makes Lumberjaxe different from any other axe-throwing venues?

All our equipment is manufactured by the World Axe Throwing League.

This means that you are getting axes designed & balanced for no other purpose than being thrown!!

No blunt, chipped hardware store axes from out of the specials bin.

All our axes are sharpened and maintained regularly to give you the best experience we can deliver.

Axe Throwing is a safe and exciting sport, whether you’re a pro-competition axe thrower or it’s your first time holding an axe.

We’ll show you and your crew exactly how to have a great time!

Our sessions are for 90 minutes, but before hurling an axe downrange we’ll cover the safety requirements and a few rules to follow, then we’ll teach you how to throw some axes!

We'll have you getting your axe into the target correctly and hopefully accurately in no time at all.

We have plenty of different games to play or if you're the competitive type simply keep score for bragging rights!

Adelaide’s Gillman Speedway has only been in existence for a relatively short time but is already recognised as one of the best racing surfaces in the World.

When six-times World Solo Speedway Champion, Tony Rickardsson visited the track from Sweden, he said “this is how Speedway should be” and even gave a donation to the Airfence fund.

Ten-times Australian Champion Leigh Adams loved coming to Gillman and says “It was great fun going to Gillman. I always did well there and the epic battle I had with (three-times World Champion) Jason Crump in an Australian Championship Final was one of the great races I remember. The place just gets better and better and is a credit to the workers and club.”

And eleven-times Australian Sidecar Champion Darrin Treloar, from Sydney, statistically the sport’s most successful rider, says “the race track is always second to none and the officials always make us welcome when we arrive. It is just fantastic to be a part of the show.”

Speedway Racing . . . Truly A Night To Excite!

Phoenix Motorcycle Club of South Australia

Phoenix Motorcycle Club of South Australia

by , in Local Business or Place , April 28, 2023

The club was created by a group of bikers who hung around a cafe in the city.  After some bad publicity on a weekend ride (see story), they were advised to become a registered club so the police would not hassle them.

The Phoenix Motorcycle Club of SA was founded in March 1964 with 84 members and affiliated with the Auto Cycle Union of SA (now Motorcycling South Australia). In 1978 it became an incorporated body.

At first the club ran scramble meetings on a track they created at Brooks Gully (near Tanunda) and in the mid 1970′s the move was finally made into road racing.  The club quickly became the premier road race club in Adelaide growing to a peak of 213 members in 1978.

The Club held a number of dances in the late 60′s and our Annual Fancy Dress cabaret was held 1976-1991 at halls in Kilburn, Woodville and (after those councils refused to hire any more halls to us) the Hungarian Club at Norwood.

Since its formation in 1964, the Club has held meetings in a number of locations. The first meeting took place in Ma’s Café, Tavistock St, Adelaide followed by a rented hall at Wayville. When attendance at meetings fell to about a dozen regulars, they decided that meeting in a hotel was cheaper and easier.  In the boom years of the late seventies, there were so many people going to the fortnightly meetings that the hotel had to put on extra staff to cater for the crowds.
