The Philippines made its Olympic debut in 1924 in Paris, becoming the first Southeast Asian country to participate in the Games. The Philippine Olympic Committee fielded a team of 19 athletes, consisting of nine men and ten women, competing in eleven different sports. This marked the Philippines' return to gymnastics and rowing, and the debut of skateboarding.
The Tokyo Olympics yielded the Philippines' best-ever Olympic performance, with the country securing four medals. Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz made history by clinching the first-ever Olympic gold for the Philippines. The country's other medals came in boxing, with Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam both winning silver, and Eumir Marcial securing a bronze medal.
