The DP World Tour arrives again at this year’s Ryder Cup venue Marco Simone Golf & Country Club for the 80th anniversary of the DS Automobiles Italian Open. An in-form Robert MacIntyre returns to Rome this week to defend his crown after beating reigning US Open Champion Matt Fitzpatrick in a play-off last year to claim the 2022 Italian Open. MacIntyre will feel confident after making back-to-back top 10 finishes in Kenya and Japan and finishing seventh last week in South Korea. Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald will be joined in the field this week by his Vice-Captains Thomas Bjørn, Nicolas Colsaerts and Italy’s Edoardo Molinari. Victor Perez will look to showcase his talent after claiming his first Rolex Series title at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. He’s finished no worse than 18th in his last two appearances at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club and only missed out on the play-offs by one shot last year. Jorge Campillo is also a contender after winning his third DP World Tour title in Kenya in March and has finished in the top ten in his last four starts. The winner of the Italian Open in 2021, Nicolai Højgaard, will be shooting for top spot this week alongside Ryder Cup hopefuls Thorbjørn Olesen, Yannick Paul and Rafa Cabrera Bello.
