After the 2008 Olympics, Phelps lost his motivation. Broke up with his girlfriend Nicole. And he was lost. "What else is there to do after winning 8 gold medals?" He asked himself. "What could justify training hard for another 4 years?"After a while, he slowly began to motivate himself with new goals. Like being the Olympic athlete with the most medals of all time. And winning his favorite event, the 200 butterfly for the third time in a row. That feeling, believe it or not, is very common among competitive swimmers. Many of my friends couldn't even look at a pool for years after they retired. My brother said that he would never do cardio again. We all realize at some point or another that our bodies need movement. And to understand why so many swimmers, including Michael Phelps, return to swimming even if they absolutely hate it, we need a little biology lesson. Our hearts ask to be challenged. They want at least 45 minutes of faster blood pumping and then get back to normal throughout the day. Our joints demand movement to get all the nutrients they need. You might think that the feeling of fighting for survival is terrifying. And you are right. Many people are afraid of the water. And almost everyone is afraid of a hard swimming practice. For some lucky brave people, the adventure in the water is a radical life improvement. Our dry-land channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMx5IKVnc7RfNCs2TyjoLuwSwimming camps:https://skillswimming.com/swimming-camp/If you like swimming, you will like our webpage:https://skillswimming.com/swimming/Our favorite Amazon products:http://bit.ly/SkillsNAmazonInstragram:https://www.instagram.com/skillsntalentsFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/SkillsNTalentsThanks for watching!Swim fast!Sources:https://elcofresuena.es/estilo-de-vida/la-hormona-del-cortisol-y-su-importancia-en-el-ejercicio-fisico/https://theconversation.com/super-human-athletes-are-at-risk-from-the-post-olympic-blues-heres-why-64266https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2016.00868/fullhttps://socalbhrt.com/depression-and-irritability/https://time.com/4452285/rio-2016-olympics-michael-phelps-retirement/https://eric.ed.gov/?id=EJ1110780https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/1753-6405.12433https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2020/04/17/michael-phelps-retire-2012-olympics-swimming/00:00 - Michael Phelps in person00:52 - Post - Beijing 01:30 - Post - London01:50 - Post - Swimming02:05 - Benefits of Swimming03:26 - Swimming Competition03:57 - Mental Health Skills05:27 - The Brave Ones
