Malaysia won a total of two medals at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, including one silver and one bronze.
Malaysia successfully secured qualifications for 30 athletes across 10 sports for the 2020 Summer Olympics, with 13 of them being first-time competitors. Additionally, for the first time in history, the Malaysian team competing in these Games had more women (18 athletes or 60%) than men (12 athletes or 40%).
Azizulhasni Awang, named Pocket Rocketman, added a silver medal to his historic bronze from Rio 2016 after finishing second in the men’s keirin event at Tokyo 2020.
Aaron Chia and Son Wood Yik became the first ever world badminton champions from Malaysia after winning the men's doubles title at the 2022 BWF World Championships. Together, they also won a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics.
