Woodville South cricket Club was formed circa 1932 as the Beverley Cricket Club.

Our original home ground was located at Princess Square, where the Simpson – Pope factory is currently situated.

Pope’s manufacturing site expanded in the 1950’s engulfing Princess Square. The owner, Sir Sydney Barton Pope, gave land on Ledger Road to the club circa 1954. It was shared with the Kilkenny Football Club.

The oval was originally known as Beverley Oval to circa 1980’s, when it was re-named Ledger Reserve.

The Beverley Cricket Club was managed throughout 1950’s and 60’s by local identities, Allen C. Grindley (Ali), his wife Lillian (known as Joyce) an in later years their son, Allen William Grindley.

The club played in the Woodville District Cricket Association.

The Woodville South Sports and Social Club was formed in October 1970, through the merger between the Beverley Cricket Club and the Kilkenny Football Club. Mr A.W. Grindley played the pivotal role in the merger.

Mr A W Grindley was an exceptional cricketer winning numerous batting and bowling awards throughout his career. He was also an exceptional administrator of the club until retiring from playing cricket in 1976.

Woodville South Cricket Club joined the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association in 1970. The team colours were originally Blue and Gold, until 1978 when it became Red and White.
