Introduction To Taekwondo
Taekwondo is a popular form of martial arts that is known mostly for its kicking techniques. The word "taekwondo" simply means "way of the fist and foot". There are two categories of taekwondo: ITF (International Taekwondo Federation) and WTF (World Taekwondo Federation). Since it is a form of self defense, it is suitable for people of all ages, gender and body types. It helps to improve one's strength, discipline and flexibility. Remember that when you enroll for taekwondo classes, it is not all about being serious and fighting, it also gives you the opportunity to meet new people along the way.
A Brief History of Taekwondo
Even though it was discovered in 1966, it dates back more than 2000 years ago. The original founder of this form of martial arts was General Choi Hong Hi also known as the father of taekwondo. It is believed to have originated in Seoul, South Korea. General Choi Hong Hi was in the army in his early years where he trained in shotokan and taekkyeon karate. He later on combined the two forms of martial arts and came up with Taekwondo. Sadly, the General passed away in 2002, leaving behind a legend.
